After the 3.6.11 update, back button stays grayed out and does not work no matter where I am, url address bar is truncated and mostly visibly gone, and the search bar leaves no room to type in text/is also truncated.
after the updates my navigation tools are completely inoperable/unusable. The back button stays grayed out as if there is no history, even if there is, and the url address bar is truncated right after the graphics portion of the bar (the blue pointer)... the rest of the address bar space is the same as the background console. Same for the search bar. All I get is the search engine choice and a magnifying glass icon. There is no actual space in the bar to type anything. What the heck is going on?

What you describe may be caused if the file that stores history and bookmarks is damaged. For details on fixing that see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite
deleting the places.sqlite and places.sqlite-journal files in the profile directory and letting them rebuild themselves upon restart had absolutely no effect on relieving the issues.
I have been with Firefox since version 1, but this is about the end of the line for me. Other browsers just don't have these ridiculous issues that eat up my time trying to fix. I am way too busy to waste my time this way. I am done. Goodbye Firefox.
Delete localstore.rdf or rename the file to localstore.rdf.sav in the Profile Folder to test if the file is corrupted.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf
(caution: do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder)
Note:
Deleting the file localstore.rdf will reset the customizations of the toolbars to the defaults.
You can rename "localstore.rdf" to "localstore.rdf.sav" to test if that solves it.
Then you can restore the customization by copying "localstore.rdf.sav" to "localstore.rdf" if it didn't work.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
