I don't like the newer versions. Will my 6.02 version change if I install 31.4.0 Security & Stability update?

After trying a couple of the latest Thunderbird versions, I happily went back to 6.02, which has everything I like for my profiles.

For the past few days I keep getting insistant messages to download 31.40 Security and Stability updates. But, I'm not using that version.

So, my two questions are:

(1) Do I need these updates for the 6.02 version?

(2) if I do download the updates will my version change to 31.4.0?

Thanks.

Version 6 is pretty old. You have skipped lots of upgrades.

If you down load the upgrades you move to the version of the upgrade. That is why it is called an upgrade. Personally I have stayed at version 24.6 due to all the problems that versions 31 and up have shown so far. They might be getting close to solving those now and when they do I will move up.

The updates will change you to Thunderbird v 31.4.0,

Since you have decided that you prefer to use the older version, these updates are of no use to you.

I think it's better to update and learn how to adjust things to look as near as possible as you want them. Some changes are best just embraced and tolerated. :-( I don't much like messages in tabs and I don't like the application menu button, but by and large I can ignore both.

Your old version may have security flaws that expose you unnecessarily to risks.

Thanks, Zenos and Airmal for taking the time to answer.

The update message arrives every day, but now I just delete it.
