Cmd + F search function doesn't work any more - nothing comes up at all, and F3 doesn't either?

I'm using a 2010 Mac OSX 10.9.4 Mavericks, I just updated Firefox and when I try to search for a word on a tab with Cmd +F (would be Ctl +F on Windows) nothing comes up. Other areas have said to use F3 now, but that doesn't work either, and neither does fn+F3. I don't want to download an app to fix this because they all seem to be large and bulky to use, rather than the small bar at the bottom, which I liked.

Don't you see the Find bar at all or is the Find bar not working?

Try to rename (or delete) the xulstore.json file in the Firefox profile folder. You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thank you! I don't know what fixed it, but it's working now - I just did all of your suggestions.

I wasn't seeing the Find bar at all - it wasn't coming up.
