"Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working" error
Firefox crashes with above error sometimes; far more often it hangs for 30 minutes. Please help!

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it and select Submit.
Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

This thread's issue has for a couple months been that often no Firefox 40.0.3 tabs can connect with ANY websites (for example, google.com).
I think I may have stumbled onto a solution (at least in part):
All tabs magically can connect when I shot down Vuze (IIRC Vuze uses Java). I'm guessing that the Java Vuze uses is somehow interfering with FF.
In Firefox I've disabled Java (because I can't upgrade Java, as [for reasons out of my control] I'm still on Windows XP [Pro sp3].
In my Comodo Free Firewall I've defined Java, Vuze, and Firefox as Trusted. I'm also running PeerBlock 1.2 (but in "Allow HTTP" mode, so it isn't interfering with Firefox).
In Firefox these 2 Plugins are in "Ask to Activate" mode: Java Platform SE 7 U51 Java Deployument Toolkit 7.0.510.13
Vuze is a Bittorrent client, so if you are having trouble connecting, it's more likely that Vuze is using up all available connections, and Firefox is left hanging. Once you shut down Vuze, your connection capacity is restored. Tone down Vuze to fit your bandwidth or try another client like Tixati or Deluge.
If you were crashing due to OOM errors/low RAM, then Java might be the culprit.

I am having crashes so I believe this may be it (and a crash report above included "Signature OOM = OutOfMemory"); I've noticed FF has started using too much memory.
How would I address my theory that "Java [is]...the culprit", please? (I'd have posted at a Java forum if there was such a place!)

p.s. Another reason my theory is Java is that I just found that reducing my Vuze connections to close to zero doesn't help at all. (Incidentally Vuze is the only bittorrent client that meets my needs.)
OK, we'll give Vuze a free pass for now.
Regarding RAM use and Java:
If Firefox RAM use is excessive, I would try a Refresh to get rid of bloat from aging profile, consecutive updates, bad settings, and add-ons: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings. After, only make the minimum possible amount of changes to Firefox (add-ons, settings) to see if a new profile, fresh settings, and fewer add-ons solves the issue.
Also, if it's true that you're on an older version of Firefox, just update first. 40.x still supports Windows XP, according to minimum system requirements.
Java can be given more memory to work with via startup parameters, but I thought Java 7 fixed the low memory allocation issues, so I would try to fix Firefox first.
PS. Ask.com and Vuze toolbars apparently cause issues for connectivity, see http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=940705.

I really don't want to need to re-configure my addons, even though maybe I should as you suggest try a Refresh before trying to give Java more memory.
Could you point me towards how to give Java more memory via startup parameters please? (If that doesn't work I can THEN take the time to do a FF Refresh.)

Here is a version of the instructions: http://www.bugtreat.com/blog/how-to-allocate-more-memory-to-java-in-windows-7/ (it's the same principle for XP; those instructions are from 2012).
The Refresh is not as complicated or as time-consuming as you might think. Good add-ons will let you export settings, and plugins like Java or Flash don't need to be reconfigured at all.

My theory that my issue is Java was I think strengthened when I attempted to follow the instructions Phoxuponyou posted, and found I can't because my Java Control Panel won't open. Un/re-installing Java didn't help.
So for a while I have lived with it. But that became untennable the instant I upgraded to FF42 because my FF42 crashes instantly every time, which is simply unusable.
So I reverted to FF41.0.2 which of course is an insecure solution.
Java certainly seems broken.

Looking for that "program" file should be dead easy (remember to show hidden files, just in case).
More than once programs have left behind stuff in Program Files and the user's profile that has complicated matters when the software was reinstalled. Purging the appropriate folders from those locations could also be the ticket.

Unfortunately I have no "program" file (!) to delete. (I always un-hide hidden everything.)
I tried again the un/re-install of Java but it again didn't work. I had already previously purged the appropriate folders. Had never heard of "Environment variables" but getting rid of PATHEXT = .js; .jse didn't resolve the issue. By which I mean I still can't get to the Java Control Panel (even with the "javaws -viewer" cmd).
Any suggestion on a good Java forum? I wish Oracle hosted some sort of help for Java.

For advice, probably Stack Overflow or any open coder forum, really. So many people have had trouble with Java that there's always a thread or two when you have an issue to solve! I've had bad experiences on the "general IT support" boards, especially when asking for advice.
My only remaining suggestion at this point is Revo Uninstaller, http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html. Sometimes the automated stuff can catch things people forget or don't look for, and they still have XP support listed.

I did try some forums including at Stack Overflow and none were any help at all. I guess I've got a sticky issue, since forums have helped me vastly many other times.
On the bright side, with my upgrade to FF43.0 today it no longer "crashes instantly every time", so while I expect it will continue to happenn, at least I'm not stuck on the "insecure solution" of FF41.0.2 anymore.
