upgraded to firefox 49 speeddiial stopped working and all speeddial tabs lost tabs lost
added speedial to F/fox it does not work and all my old speeddialer tabs are gone

I would first make sure that the add on is up to date: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../?src=search
Second, it is a verified addon it seems so that should not be the issue unless an about:config entry was changed. (If that is not a familiar term then the answer is no)
To access the tabs you can check the history to re-open them in History > Show all history
