I don't want to use tabs, how can I turn them off to save screen space?
My request is simple: How can I get rid of the tabs to regain the space on the screen? There used to be addons to do this but none of them work with the current and ever changing versions of Firefox.

That will not be possible but you can always run the browser in fullscreen mode which will hide them off the screen and give you the full space available and when you need to interact with it, you only need to move your mouse to the top.
You can get to fullscreen by simply pressing F11 on whatever page you are on, through the right click menu, or button on your toolbar.
