I am trying to edit my bookmarks, deleting those no longer needed, etc. However, I now have several versions in my bookmark folders, an up to date one, an original one, and an in-between one. They seem to show up randomly. Why is this happening? If I delete or edit a bookmark, can't it stay edited or deleted?

To remove a Bookmark from the Bookmarks bar, right-click the Bookmark and then left-click on Delete. To remove a Bookmark from Other Bookmarks, left-click on Other Bookmarks, find the Bookmark to remove, right-click and then click on Delete.

Will, I've done that. They keep reappearing, and the ones I have edited revert to the non-edited forms. I have a bookmark folder called Medical,. This is where I have the doctor portals, insurance links, etc. I painstakingly deleted the ones no longer active, edited others to add the word "portal" where appropriate, and then I put them into my preferred order.

After I did that, the reformatted page appeared a couple of times, then the old page appeared, and apparently the new page has gone away. I'll reboot the computer and try again, but that's all I know to do.

Are you using Sync to sync the bookmarks ?

No, what is Sync? The right click menu has edit and delete. What more do I need to edit and delete?

If you use Sync, best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This could be a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
  • you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created

You may have to restore an older bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
