I'm told every day that I don't have the latest version of Firefox; I tried to upgrade it once and couldn't figure out how to do the last step. Can someone talk me through it?

I tried to upgrade Firefox to the latest version from whatever version I have now. I went through the steps and got a little icon created. I was told to put it somewhere but I didn't know how to do that. Is there any way to talk to someone to get walked through the process? I have an iMac and am on OS X version 10.6.8. I use Firefox to get to the internet.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
