I'm sorry I am a little confused, did you download a file using Firefox and it keeps trying to download, or did Firefox download an update and that keeps trying to download?

i was downloading a file, after completion, and opening firefox for the next time it asks for downloading that file again, and this process continues everytime i open firefox or a new tab in fire fox.

With Firefox open can you try typing CTRL+J to open the downloads window, if the file shows up there can you try pausing and removing it?

Can you please check you Firefox home page and make sure that it has not been set to the URL of the file you downloaded.

Let us know if that helps.

Did you check the home page setting to make sure that you aren't opening a page with an automatic download?

You can also try to remove the downloads.sqlite file.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Easiest on Mac OS X 10.7 is to use this button:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

In Mac OS X v10.7, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.

Open Finder and use one of these:

  • Go > Go To Folder (Shift-Command-G) and in the dialog type: ~/Library
  • Open the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key to make the Library appear

You can also use this command in a Terminal window to remove the hidden flag.

  • Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal
  • chflags nohidden ~/Library
