Windows Live Mail doesn't work in Firefox after recent updates to Windows 7. System Restore doesn't help.

Installed around 8 important Windows 7 updates over the past 3 days (so, nothing I could uninstall as they're security updates mainly). Since then, Windows Live Mail doesn't respond in Firefox. Did 2 System Restores and downloaded Live Essentials again but nothing works.

Hi again Clarabel,

If you find cor-el's instructions for creating new profiles and manually transferring over files from the old profile a bit complicated, it's because it is. :) A simpler method you might want to try is to use the Reset Firefox feature -- it restores settings back to normal, including clearing things like cache, cookies, etc, while retaining all your important things like bookmarks and passwords.

The simple instructions are available here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems

Hope either of these approaches help you.

Cheers, David

Hi Clarabel,

Argh, not getting to your mail is frustrating, sorry about your issues! I assume that with Windows Live Mail, you mean their website at mail.live.com. This could be a problem with obsolete cache on that website that causes trouble.

Please follow these instructions and see if that solves it for you: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately, it didn't work. :( I tried running CCleaner as well in the meantime to try and correct any registry issues with the recent updates, but no joy.

Did you try to clear the cookies as well?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Thank you very, very much. A little bit of hassle getting all my add-ons back, but it works fine again now. :)
