My website's favicon displays fine everywhere but in a Firefox bookmark, where it has a white background.

I created a favicon that works in IE v.8 and in Firefox v.4. However, if I add our homepage as a bookmark, the favicon displays with a white background (it should be transparent). And it is transparent in the address bar and on the tab, just not on the bookmark. Any ideas? Thanks.

How about a URL for where we can see that Favicon?

Maybe that favicon is too large: 64px × 64px

No, I saved it as a 16px x 16px .ico file. Thanks.

Try putting that "image" in the root directory of your website, like this - http://www.gsmanitou.org/favicon.ico - instead of the /images/ folder. And make sure you change the link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" tag to /favicon.ico or just delete that tag altogether, as Firefox will find the favicon image when it is in the root directory.

I tried moving it to the root folder (in which case it didn't display at all in Firefox) and shrinking it to 16px x 16px, which didn't improve the situation in Firefox.

It works for me with the current set up and the smaller favicon.

Did you try to remove the current bookmark or reload and bypass the cache?

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

I tried reloading and bypassing the cache, and it is still displaying improperly. Is this an issue with the version of Firefox?
