Please help. Deleted chrome for obvious reasons. Now, I have installed Firefox and have done all the updates and flash updates including 64 bit. I am running vista with quad core and 6 gig of ram. I have been having constant hanging with flash even on the Facebook site. Flash was crashing again so I just waited and went in another room, I heard the familiar restart sound of windows. There is nothing wrong with my computer as I was/am a computer technician so I have alot of knowledge of what is going on. There is no way.. is there? That firefox is worse than google chrome? I will not use IE.. please help. I have not had any program restart my computer for years and years. If this happens again without some kind of help then good-bye Firefox.. ty again.. ~ jj ~

FlashPlayer is often a source of problems, it is old technology that hopefully will soon no longer be needed. Note for instance YouTube videos play without needing FlashPlayer.

Possibly Google Chrome does handle FlashPlayer better than Firefox as it has FlashPlayer Built in and updates automatically. Chrome is also multi process, only pre release versions of Firefox are multi process. Firefox does use a plugin container by default for FlashPlayer, that should help prevent browser crashing.

FlashPlayer itself defaults to using it's protected mode on Windows >XP that is supposed to make FlashPlayer safer, but sometimes results in problems and crashes. That may be disabled to see if it helps.

You do not need 64bit FlashPlayer. The standard Windows Release of Firefox is 32 bit. That is what you are using, and that needs 32 bit FlashPlayer.

I would expect a quad core machine with 6GB to be able to handle facebook with no problems or hangs, but then again we don,t know what you are doing you may have hundreds of tabs open and be trying to stream multiple FlashPlayer videos.

For suggestions see

It is possible to use Firefox 64 bit version, that handles FlashPlayer differently and will need the 64bit FlashPlayer. Whilst we've had 64bit Firefox for years on Linux it is new to Windows and not offered by default. HOWEVER you are apparently using Vista and so that is not available to you.

Is it only Firefox that crashes & is that only with FlashPlayer. It is worth submitting FlashPlayer Crash reports but you are probably better off trying to get help with FlashPlayer crashes directly from the Adobe site. If you have other Firefox crashes though let us have the Crash IDs of two or three recent crashes.

As for crashes that restart Windows, those are best reported to Microsoft.

Thanks so very much for your reply. As for windows open.. I have 3. I am playing stupid farmville. The computer has now had 4 blue screens of death and restarted itself. All updates are done. I did not have this issue at all with google chrome but with no updates/support I thought to change to firefox. Blue screens of death are usually another problem within the computer itself but since it only started to do this now I am reluctant to say it is that. I have been doing so much research I feel like I am back in College taking information technology all over again.

  • Maybe something is wrong with my computer which is just showing up now. Maybe not. I am going to go back to google chrome just to check issues out. I have already burnt and backed up all my important files.. whew! Thanks again for your help... ~ jj ~

IIRC at one time video was notorious for BSOD crashes as it used a higher privilege level in the Kernel, but I an not sure that is still the case. I would not normally expect Firefox to cause BSOD crashes.

What happens if you use Firefox with FlashPlayer disabled ? Is that totally crash free including no BSOD crashes ? If you do get Firefox crashes let us have the Crash IDs

You obviously do not need to uninstall Firefox or Google Chrome, you may within reason have as many browsers installed as you want, although you should choose one as the System's default browser.
