how do I go back to a earlier version of firefox

more options

Last up date shut off my uac by HP. I can't turn it on and I've lost my security protection or make any changes. It also appears that some one is using my internet. This came about when Mozilla Firefox did this silent treatment and I can't find any help or anyone at MF that cares. In a few more days I'll try to shut off FF but how I don't know! Roy

Can you please clarify what exactly the issue with Firefox is?

User Account Control (UAC) is a function of Windows and can't be touched by firefox. You also aren't running the latest version of Firefox, so it likely didn't update recently.

Tyler, I'm running 54.0.1. This I belief came about when what was called the silent treatment. It was to stop having a interruption from uac to give permission for some program to make changes to this computer. HP shut off my uac on 6/28/17 about the time 54.0.1 started. Thanks for your concern. Roy

This was email I sent to Microsoft on 8/10/17. Roy Thanks for the contact. I'm using a HP 8.1 64 bit serial #3CR5040HZT. My isp is Mozilla Firefox 54.01.1. (Trend Micro HAD (lost) my security). On or about the end of June 17 Firefox switched to silent treatment to stop uac interruptions. End of June, HP shut off my uac, I've ask them why but they won't respond. Early in July I was having a problem with signing in to AOL, screen went black and Microsoft came on and put me to the test to start me up. My files appear to be back but uac is still down! Now I get a sign on screen to allow access asking for adm. password with no space to enter it and yes button not lit up! Trend Micro believes I'm being hacked. No one has any answers and with no uac, I can't change any thing. You can call me at [Phone number removed by Mod]. HELP, Roy

Ok, let's address some misconceptions and issues here:

Microsoft, HP, Windows, Mozilla Firefox and your ISP are not related at all.

  • Microsoft is a software development company that builds Windows, the Operating system your computer runs (You are running Windows 8.1, apparently you missed the free upgrade to Windows 10)
  • HP is a computer manufacturer, that built the actual computer you own (the hardware you can touch).
  • Your ISP is the company you pay every month for internet access. Common ones in the United States are Comcast, Cox, Centurylink, Timewarner, Charter, etc. They are the company that gives you a connection to the internet.
  • Mozilla Firefox is a web browser, a piece of software that you install on your computer to view websites on the internet.

This is the Mozilla Firefox forum. It sounds like you are having issues with your computer's UAC settings, which we can't really help you with. Firefox switched to UAC'less updates in 2012, before your computer was even made (Windows 8.1 came out in 2013). Whatever problems you are having on your computer don't seem to be caused by Firefox.

If your computer is still under warranty, I would suggest calling HP (as they seem to be the company that built your computer) and asking their technical support line for help. If it is not under warranty, I would suggest calling a reputable local computer repair shop (not best buy) for help fixing the problem and perhaps some tips on using your computer safely.

I hope this helps!

Tyler, Thanks for info. HP will not answer why they shut off uac or who gave them permission. I'll see what Microsoft comes up with. Appreciate info. Roy

Tyler, Microsoft email was a phony one. Just tried to get 55 but it can't be done without uac. Roy
