Lately, I've found that FireFox is extremely laggy when it comes to input from the keyboard and mouse, and also in many menues from the actual Options menu, to menues found in websites. This includes text boxes, text feilds, popup menues, radio buttons and checkboxes and the like.

This makes Firefox very cumbersome to use. I've tried a Reset, to no effect, and even went as far as uninstalling and doing a fresh install. The issue remains. I assume it has to do with one of the plugins, as Safe Mode seemed to respond reasonably well. And I mean plugin, not extension, though disabling them all doesn't seem to fix the issue. I did try removing all extensions, but no effect.

I can't figure out how to completely remove the plugins I don't want though...

This is a new issue, I only noticed the lag recently, as in within the past week or so. I like FireFox the best out of the current batch of browsers, but with this lag, it's nearly unusable. Please help!

Hello,

To remove a plugin, you will need to uninstall it from your Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features.

As a test, can you try running without Hardware Acceleration to see if your browser is more responsive? You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options
  2. In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the Advanced tab, then select General.
  3. In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  4. Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
  5. Is it more responsive?
