Thunderbird takes up to 140GB on my computer. I have little space left on my hard drive. How can I reduce the 140 GB. Also I have a ton of files labelled like this zu3pmxgc.default vg4c7173.default-release-11 wvazn6sh.default-release-38 gt92gg9t.default-release-39 ltxm0odu.default-release-47 tpt7iqsg.default-release-28 0msh5b6z.default-release-8 jyo7zi75.default-release-6 qupws18p.default-release-5 0v2b6uz5.default-release-31

What are these since they take up a lot of space. Thanks in advance

You can delete as many profiles as needed, except the Default profile that is in use. Don't delete the folders from Finder, delete them from about:profiles.

Those are profile folders, and you can launch, rename and delete them from Help/More Troubleshooting, about:profiles.

Space can also be freed up by compacting folders (File menu), and unsubscribing All Mail from gmail accounts.

Thanks but I am really not computer literate. How do I compact files and how do I know which files I can delete in that large folder. Thanks in advance for your patience and help

Compacting is done by selecting File/Compact folders. Press Alt if the Menu Bar with File is hidden.

Look at the dates on the profile folders, and if you think any can be deleted, use the commands in about:profiles, or copy them to a safe location first and then delete them.

Ok I will try. I am wondering if you know an who would be willing to work with me (of course I would compensate them) and help me? I am at my wit's end.

Help is offered in this forum by unpaid volunteers. I think you would have to find a computer consultant in your local community to help you manage the data in all these profiles, if you're unable to decide by yourself.

Ok can then ask you some questions about deleting what files?

Ok So I looked over my Thunderbird profile files. Some are dated today and others March 2021. Since they take up so much room can and I have no room o my hard drive can I delete the ones that are in Mach 2021 and just keep the most recent ones?

Thanks for any help you might give me.

I realized I never thanked you. Your solution worked. I have another question: When I send an email I get a sent message error even though the email has been sent and it shows up in my sent folder as being sent. Any reason why I am getting this message. Also even though in my preferences on my Mac I have set my notifications for mail for badges and alerts it still doesn't notify me when an email comes. Any suggestions there. Thanks

more options

What is the error message, and who is the mail provider? I don't have a Mac to test notifications, so I can't offer any advice. Create a new topic with a title like "Mac notification badges and alerts not working".

more options

The message goes by so quickly and not for every email that I send out. It says something like unable to copy the message to my sent folder but it does any way.

Again I am so grateful to you for solving my storage problem.

That message can happen if the provider is gmail or outlook.com etc., and you have 'Place a copy in' checked in Account Settings/Copies & Folders. Those services automatically copy sent messages to the Sent or Sent Mail folder, so the box must be unchecked.
