After upgrading to Firefox 4.0 I become unable to find the RSS icon for pages have RSS links. In Firefox 3.6, the RSS icon was located on the right end of the address bar (near the star). Where is the RSS icon located in Firefox 4.0? Thanks.

You can find an RSS (Subscribe) button in the toolbar palette and drag it on the right side of the Navigation Toolbar.

The RSS button has been removed from the location bar. Instead there is a toolbar button that you can add, for details of how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar - the RSS button is named "Subscribe" in the customize toolbar window.

The RSS button is greyscale, if you prefer to add an RSS icon to the location bar similar to Firefox 3.6, you can use the RSS Icon extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/rss-icon

Thanks for your help. I don't know why Mozilla has made this change. I didn't like it. The way used in Firefox 3.6 was better and easier.

That's a shame that they removed this functioality. It was the quintessentially simple, useful feature. Why remove it? What's the harm in keeping it? Was it hurting anything?

The simple beauty of the RSS icon was that it only showed up if there was a feed on the page. Now I have no obvious way to know.

This is seriously annoying. Just another incomprehensible decision like when they stopped automatically showing the next and previous arrows when you initiated a page search by typing.

This is really lame. The RSS button in the location bar was way more convenient (it only highlighted itself when it found an actual RSS feed), and didn't take up any space since it was in the location bar. Now, the new "subscribe" button (only accessible via the Customize menu) not only takes up more space, but it does not highlight if there is an RSS feed available for the site.

I love FF but removing the RSS icon from the end of the Address bar has broken a UI feature and my heart.

Firefox why is it helpful to make it harder to know if there is an active RSS feed on a page?

Contrary to what some users have stated on this page it seems that on the version that I have installed the Subscribe (RSS) button does automatically highlight if there is an RSS feed available for the site.

However, I agree with bhall7 that "the RSS button in the location bar was way more convenient... and didn't take up any space since it was in the location bar."

In addition to the "Subscribe" button, another excellent extension can bring back the same RSS icon as in FF3.6:
