loading tabs in background
I am using firefox. sometimes i open many tabs by clicking on links in emails, forums and other pages. I have already unchecked option "dont' load tabs until selected". However, pages in tabs are not loaded until selected. . it is quite irritating to click each and every tab and wait for page to load. How can I force firefox to load pages in background in all tabs as soon as they are opened?

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
- Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Is this about opening links in Firefox or about clicking a link in an external program to open the default browser?
this happens when opening links in Firefox. I usually open many tabs by clicking links in emails or opening multiple threads in forums etc at the same time for ease of reading.
You can middle-click the links or hold Ctrl and left-click to open them in a background tab provided the setting in Tabs to open links doesn't have a tick. Note that holding the Shift key when middle-clicking toggles this setting in case you want to override sometimes.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

The tab background setting modifies this pref:

- 1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;
For links opened via JavaScript you can look at this pref:
