Is there a way to put the Spellchecker 5.0.1 on the toolbar?

more options

When I had the Spellbound add-on there was an icon I could put on my tool bar. I could use it to spell check activity in my Auctiva description box. Spellchecker 5.0.1 does not automatically check spelling in Auctiva and I'm wondering if there was an icon on the tool bar perhaps it would act the same as Spellbound.

I would revert to Firefox 3.6 if I could but there are other things that don't work there and so I have to stay with 4.

I have the suggested dictionary addon - and I have changed the layout.spellcheck Default from 1 to 2

The Dictionary add-ons do not have icons like Spellbound did. To learn how to use the spell checker with the Dictionary add-ons, see:

Adobe issued updates on all 3 of the following plugins yesterday (2011-06-14). You have these 3 installed on your system. Check your plugins and update if necessary

  • Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.5.9.620
  • Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1
  • Shockwave Flash 10.3 r181
  1. Check your plugin versions on either of the following links':
  2. Update Shockwave for Director
    • NOTE: this is not the same as Shockwave Flash; this installs the Shockwave Player.
    • Use Firefox to download and SAVE the installer to your hard drive from the link in the article below (Desktop is a good place so you can find it).
    • When the download is complete, exit Firefox (File > Exit)
    • locate and double-click in the installer you just downloaded, let the install complete.
    • Restart Firefox and check your plugins again.
    • Download link and more information: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+Shockwave+plugin+with+Firefox
  3. Update Adobe Reader (PDF plugin):
    • From within your existing Adobe Reader (if you have it already installed):
      • Open the Adobe Reader program from your Programs list
      • Click Help > Check for Updates
      • Follow the prompts for updating
      • If this method works for you, skip the "Download complete installer" section below and proceed to "After the installation" below
    • Download complete installer (if you do NOT have Adobe Reader installed):
    • After the installation, start Firefox and check your version again.
  4. Update the Flash plugin to the latest version.
    • Download and SAVE to your Desktop so you can find the installer later
    • If you do not have the current version, click on the "Player Download Center" link on the "Download and information" or "Download Manual installers" below
    • After download is complete, exit Firefox
    • Click on the installer you just downloaded and install
      • Windows 7 and Vista: may need to right-click the installer and choose "Run as Administrator"
    • Start Firefox and check your version again or test the installation by going back to the download link below
    • Download and information: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
      • Use Firefox to go to the above site to update the Firefox plugin (will also install plugin for most other browsers; except IE)
      • Use IE to go to the above site to update the IE ActiveX
    • Download Manual installers.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write back.

I did everything in your involved reply.

   Everything is up to date
There is a persdict.dat in my profile folder
I read both the pages you sent and followed all directions that pertained to me
Restarted FireFox - and then the computer just to make sure.

Spellchecker seems to work everywhere else - but still not in the Auctiva description box.

That is why I was so dismayed when Spellbound went away.

Auctiva's spellchecker was made by someone's cousin - I'm pretty sure - and they installed it on Auctiva as a favor to their aunt (I made that up - but you catch my drift).

It takes forever to load - it doesn't recognize the most basic of words (heck, it doesn't even recognize the word Auctiva!), you can't add words that you use all the time, and too often it just freezes up and has to be shut down by hand and the changes have to be made by hand because it will just freeze again on the word it froze on the first time.

If you happen to be a Mozilla Geek I hope you will see if there is anything that can be done about this.

There are sure a lot of people who don't want to switch from 3.6 because they like Spellbound. I'm willing to like Mozilla's spellcheck - in fact would prefer for it to be all-in-one - but I need something that works in Auctiva.

Thanks again.
