Where do I go on my Mac to see if Firefox is blocking me from getting to my bank account online. Everything else on the web opens fine, but suddenly I can't log into my bank account. I can open the bank's home page, but when I enter username and password - I'm blocked. Yesterday was fine. Today, not. Where do I look, to see if Firefox is blocking my access?

Error page? What's that? Where's that?

Hi jclammer, I think the question means: does the site say that your username and password are incorrect? Does nothing happen when you try to login? Et cetera.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Command+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens you can remove your bank's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

I have the same problem with 2 separate banks. One bank stated that Firefox no longer opens their web site and that they were looking into it. That was a month ago and still nothing. All I get is a blank window.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Unloading cookies allowed Charles Schwab to work, but not Northern Trust. They were the ones that sent out an email stating that their site is no longer accessible using Firefox. By unloading their cookies I can access their site but not sign in.

Hi jayh3

What happens if you try to log in?

Are there any icons on the location/address bar that content is blocked?

Are you using the default cookie settings or do you use extensions that deal with cookies or extensions that otherwise can block content?

I get a blank screen when trying to sign in. You need to talk to them.

It works now.
