Messages that I delete keep being re-downloaded. How do I make them go away for good?
I just started using Thunderbird. No problem with downloading and installing the program, setting up my 2 email accounts to be viewed as a unified folder - all went well. Then messages were downloaded dating back more than a year. OK - I sifted through everything and deleted what was not wanted. (Keeping the inbox under 500 messages is the goal.) Then the messages were downloaded again. I deleted them again a few minutes ago. Then got a message stating 229 messages were just downloaded - same ones I just got rid of. I assume I set up the accounts incorrectly but I'm not sure where I went wrong.

I don't think you set the accounts up incorrectly, but I do think your anti virus is ill and needs to stop scanning email. I am sure there is a setting in the anti virus somewhere to turn email scanning off.
Can you suggest how I can fix it? How can I start over and who should I set up the accounts differently?
How did you setup the accounts before POP or IMAP?
If you're going to set them up again and you previously set them up with POP, try IMAP this time.
