I've just applied the latest Firefox 31.7.0 ESR update (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0) [*], with the result that it's not possible anymore to scroll web pages, neither by mouse wheel nor by arrow keys [**].

This is specific to Firefox, scrolling works normally in all other applications, and is apparently related to the latest update, as scrolling worked as expected with the previous release.

Turning off/on the various scrolling-related options in about:preferences, Advanced > General, didn't help.

I also applied the update to Firefox running inside a virtual machine (also Windows, however 7 Ultimate 64bit this time, inside VMware Workstation 10), rendering the same result. Rolling the VM back to the snapshot taken before the Firefox update was applied remedied the effect, scrolling was back to normal.

So, in my book, it's clearly a bug in Firefox 31.7.0 ESR.

<sarcasm>Leaves me with the nagging question how a bug as serious and obvious as this one could escape usability testing and make its way into _an_ESR_release_, which is supposed to be "enterprise ready".</sarcasm>

Does anybody else experience this problem, or maybe even have a solution?

[*] Btw, I find it somewhat funny that Firefox 31.7.0 ESR (as shown in the "About Mozilla Firefox" dialog) reports "Firefox/31.0" in the user agent string. Imho, "Firefox/31.7" would make far more sense to the average user.

[**] Scrolling "manually" by using a window's or tab's scroll bar works.

That update is only an update to address security issues.

You can also try a clean reinstall of the 31.7.0 version in case something went wrong wit updating.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
