Thunderbird is deleting messages without me telling it to and failing to deliver messages on time. How do I fix this?

Thunderbird is failing to deliver messages. We will get emails days late. Also, we will open our email and we can see Thunderbird deleting emails when we aren't clicking delete. Please help!
