Hello,

Ever since the Firefox recent update my accessibility add ons no longer work. Are there add ons that will enlarge the address bar and control the font size of web pages without having to do it each time to each web page like the above add ons? If not can I go back to the old version? This version isn't accessible to me without these add ons. I have already followed the instructions to set the font to 20 under preferences and I unchecked Allow sites to use their own fonts and still some sites turn up in small print. Thanks, Debbie

Note that some websites use special icon fonts to display small images (symbols). If you disable website fonts then this icon font isn't applied and you may see little boxes with the hex code of the character instead.

You can look at Zoom Page WE and NoSquint Plus extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.

Hi Debbie, what add-on were you using?

Firefox 57 restricted the powers of add-ons and changed the programming interface. Some older extensions were not able to be updated, or the developers couldn't make enough time to do it. There might be good alternative by now, but that is hard to tell you without being able to do a little research on the one you were using.

Address bar: Do you want to enlarge everything in the toolbar area and throughout Firefox? There is a global scaling factor you can increase to do that.

Otherwise, I don't think add-ons can resize text in the address bar, but there are other workarounds.

Web pages: There are several extensions to increase the zoom level of web pages if you don't find the built-in feature convenient.

By the built-in feature, I mean using Command+ to enlarge and Command- to reduce, or the zoom controls on the menu, or the optional zoom buttons you can add to the toolbar through Customize.

Hi, Thanks for writing.

I was using the Theme Font Changer.

I know how to use Zoom but I don't want to have to do that for every website. I was hoping to find a way to have it be large automatically. I don't understand why the settings I already entered to 20 font sometimes but not always works even though I unchecked the button for allowing websites to choose their own fonts under Advanced.

How do you use the global scaling factor? Yes I do want to enlarge the address bar and everything around it. Thanks

Let's start with the global scaling factor.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste devp and pause while the list is filtered -- there should only be one preference left

(3) The layout.css.devPixelsPerPx normally has -1.0 which follows the system Text Size.

Double-click to open a small dialog where you can type a new value.

If you have a Retina display (double-density): try 3

If you have a standard display: try 1.5

That should give an effective "150%" zoom compared with the base size.

If you would like larger, you could repeat the test with 4 and 2 respectively (200%).

If something goes wrong, you can right-click (Ctrl+click) the preference and choose Reset (or tap the R key) to get back to where you started.

What do you think?
