hello therealatri, this is a known problem which is triggered by hardware acceleration and ati's catalyst driver 12.8 on windows 8. actually there should already be a block in place in firefox for those affected systems to use hardware acceleration, which might not have worked in your place... (could you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information and copy the information that is shown in the graphics section and post it as a reply to this question)
you can manually disable hardware acceleration in firefox under options > advanced > general.
edit: apparently there is a fix in firefox 16 beta which allows blacklisting of the driver for hardware acceleration. you could also try this version: www.mozilla.org/firefox/beta

thanks boss! disabled HWA and installed all my old addons. havent had any crashes since then. also havent noticed any difference in performance, is HWA really necessary?
