Thunderbird won't sync folders w/ Office365 account
I am currently using Thunderbird 38.5.1 (latest) using IMAP with an office365.com account. Everything worked just fine untill just this morning, when Thunderbird now doesn't recognise/sync the folder structure on my account. All that shows up now is Inbox and Trash. When I go the menu option to Subscribe, the folder structure shown is correct. When I attempt to tick some folders to sync and hit OK... nothing happens. As far as I can tell, everything else is working fine, I can send and receive email, if I make a new folder in office365 it will appear in the subscribe list on Thunderbird, just that literally nothing appears to happen when I try to sync them - no error message or status message at all. I can't think of anything that would've changed in the last day or two, because as mentioned, everything was working fine earlier. Honestly I suspect it may have something to do with office365, but I don't know where to begin to debug what's going on here to even be able to figure out a solution in that case.
Things I have tried:
- Uninstall and re-install Thunerbird
- Revert to a previous version (38.4.0)
- Delete and re-create account
- Test with different email provider and new account (my personal Gmail, this worked just fine)

Does it say the folders were deleted in the 'Activity Manager'? Tools > Activity Manager or Menu icon > Activity Manager Try this: Right click on imap mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings' select 'Server Settings' for the imap mail account. Then try to subscribe to see folders. Please report back on results.
- click on 'Advanced' button
- uncheck: 'show only subscribed folders'.
- click on OK
- click on OK to save and exit Account Settings.
All my folders are now viewable/interact-able again, which is good enough for my purposes although it appears there is still some problem that exists.

Tried with your anti virus email scanner turned off. They update daily these days and updates include all sorts of updates, not just definitions.
I'm not running any anti-virus software on this machine, so I doubt anything is interfering with Thunderbird or it's files.
Something I forgot to add earlier: when I restart Thunderbird after having tried to subscribe to some folders, they will appear on the left pane very briefly before new messages are checked. As soon as that happens, they literally disappear - as if Thunderbird suddenly decides they don't exist on the server and should be deleted. I've noted one other thread with someone experiencing this behaviour.
Windows 7 with no anti virus software. just how do you protect yourself from infection?
Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
I have tried restarting with add-ons disabled/safe mode (and again right now, just in case) - no luck.

Do you have office 2013 installed?
Patch what about Novembers kb 2837643
I am seeing reports all over the web blaming this update for causing this exact issue in Outlook. If you do have Office, please check if the kb is installed and use the link to uninstall it. Does it allow you to select only subscribed folders?
@Toad-hall can you shed any light on this as a possibility? This is my first shot at this as a possible causative issue. I really hope this is it. as the complaints queue is growing, but not universal. I have no problem, but nor do I have office anything.
No, I don't have Office 2013 installed, nor can I find that specific windows update. I'm not sure what Outlook has to do with anything, I don't have that installed either (confusingly they call their email web app Outlook too).
