Always when dragging tabs between windows open in tabs not windows?

I usually have several windows open and each has quite many tabs. But quite often I want to move a tab from one window to other. It works fairly by dragging the tab to the tab bar of the other window, but is very finicky and way too often(25%?) I miss the tab tab and it instead opens a new window with the tab and I then have to repeat the operation and that is kind of frustrating. I have never used the drag to open new window functionality on purpose.

So is there a setting or extension that always forces the opening of dragged tabs as tabs of the destination window instead of opening a new window regardless of the target area?

I have tried looking but have not found such.

I would think not. A steady hand is needed. But you can look here for a Extension that might do what you wish : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/search/?platform=windows&q=move+tab

This would work also : https://testpilot.firefox.com/experiments/side-view

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I already have a tab manager that allows opening a window with all the windows and tabs and then rearranging them, and I do actually use it when I need to move a lot of tabs, but it is kind of very clumsy for moving only a few tabs.

I also used to have a tab mover extension that allowed right clicking on the tab and selecting move to window and then what window. I removed it at some point when I noticed that I never used it as the process is so clumsy.

So unfortunately those are just clumsy ways of doing the easy thing of drag and drop.

Hi, ya it is difficult to pin down with a description like that. Was there one you used to use ?

This is not designed for what you are thinking of but maybe it could reduce the moving of tabs around : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/multi-account-containers/

I currently have https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-manager-webextension/ installed and it works fine, but is clumsy so as said I only use it for moving large number of tabs and use the drag and drop for moving single/few tabs to another window as it is so much faster and easier usually.

But the fact that sometimes the tab does not move to the indicated window and instead opens a new window with it is really annoying. That is why I would want to find some way to always force the move to that window and never open a new window on drag and drop.

I had https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/clicktabmove/ installed for moving single tabs, and it worked fine, but in the end it was too complex to right click and then follow several menu options. Again the drag and drop works better except when it does not...

The account containers does not seem to have any functionality to make moving tabs around easier that I can see, or am I missing something?

No. Just it may reduce the need to move tabs when can organize them as containers do.
