Firefox won't retain preference browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite
I want Firefox to remember a default local download folder for each site I visit. This preference:
browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite
used to work well for me. No, however, it doesn't seem to work. One possible reason is that Firefox loses or deletes this preference after I add it. I can't discern a pattern to it's deletion. I set this preference to 'true', and later when I see it's not working I discover the preference has been deleted or lost in Firefox.
1) Why is this preference being spontaneously deleted?
2) Should this preference be working as I expect?

Hi Jeff, saving per site is the default behavior, so you don't need a preference for that (only to override it).
But I don't know why it would vanish on its own. Is your installation of Firefox managed by an IT department?
When you re-create the preference, does Firefox remember the stored site-specific folder data, or is that gone by then?
Any pattern to when it occurs, such as after Firefox updates, or after system updates, or after system reboots, or at some other time?
My Firefox installation isn't managed by an IT department.
Saving the download folder per website doesn't seem to be the default for me. The lack of this functionality is what caused me to go looking for the browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite preference in the first place.
Then, after creating this preference and setting it to "true", sometime later, I again noticed that Firefox wasn't remembering the download folder for a website and I noticed that the preference had been deleted.
Right after re-creating and setting this preference, Firefox does remember the download folder for a website.
But, I've so far been unable to determine what event(s) cause this preference to be lost / deleted. I have seen this preference survive reboots. On the other hand, I've seen it lost when there was NO Firefox update.
