How do I recover bookmarks for a laptop with fried hard drive and download them to a new laptop?
My MacBook Pro hard drive was fried. I have purchased a new laptop. Does Firefox have a backup for those files somewhere "out there" that I can access to download them into the new computer?
Thanx,
John

Hi John, generally speaking, all of your Firefox data is stored in a single folder on your laptop called your profile folder. Normally, the only reasons for that data to be stored in another location would be:
(A) You had been using Firefox Sync to share the data to a different installation of Firefox.
(B) You used a cloud backup service that included your Firefox profile folder.
(C) You used Time Machine or other software to make a backup on an external hard drive.
If you were using Firefox Sync, when you log in to your Firefox Account on your new installation of Firefox, there's a good chance that the data will come down even when the old installation is no longer connected, but that's not completely reliable since it was *not* designed as an archiving service. (Also, make sure you do not reset your Firefox Account password, since that will make any data on the Sync servers unrecoverable.)

Thanks J. I do have an older version of the bookmarks on an external hard drive, but it is not up to date. Since I have not done A, B, or C on your list, it looks like the recent bookmarks are down the drain. The tech at the repair shop had implied to me that I could get them back online via Firefox, but it sounds as though that is not the case.
Thanks for your help,
John

Hi there, I'm posing my question here as it was the most similar case I could find.
I lost all data on my laptop, but I had prepared a backup on an external hard drive. When I went to look for the AppData folder in there, it was not there since apparently it was a hidden folder and thus was not copied (I guess?). I'd like to know if that is the case and if there are then no other options.
Thanks in advance!
