I frequently use Amazon, but it shows up on my New Tab page as @amazon with a search icon, and when I click the tile it opens my search/address bar. How do I get the tile to open Amazon's website like all the other tiles I have on my New Tab page?

Alternatively, the way I've previously handled this "behavior" is dismissing the tile so I don't have to deal with its uselessness. My browser just updated, but why do I have to dismiss the tile a second time?

If this is a pinned top site on the Firefox Home page (about:home, about:newtab) then you can unpin this tile via the three-dot menu to remove it.

If you want to open this website normally then simply create a new tile for this URL or pin an existing bookmark or history item.

about:preferences#search

about:preferences#search doesn't list Amazon as a search engine.

then there is a possibility that your browser has been hijacked. but i am a bit boggled because i use amazon and dont have this issue.

hijacking browsers is kind of an old thing. but you may be experiencing it.

if you want to check, download a little app called "hijackThis".

it will produce a list of many "helpers" for your system and browsers.

as you review the list, my "firm" suggestion is to ignore all of them "except" for any that site/point to amazon.

if there is an entry to amazon, feel free to delete it.

however, if you also notice other oddities maybe that are residues from old apps, please let us know before you delete them.

as mentioned, the above is just a possibility.

I downloaded Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.5 and it didn't have any Amazon references, in fact the only Mozilla/Firefox related item it reported was O23 - Service: Mozilla Maintenance Service (MozillaMaintenance) - Mozilla Foundation - C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Maintenance Service\maintenanceservice.exe .

I checked the location that you said and reported as I saw it. Here's my corresponding screenshot. I remember removing the Amazon search engine entry the first time I tried removing the Amazon Search tile the first time I encountered it.

Alright, thanks cor-el. It's annoying to have to remove a tile after I've removed it previously. I did not know about the new tile functionality though. Thanks for that information!
