I installed Firefox on a new Dell laptop and imported the bookmarks from FF on old laptp. On my old laptop things are OK. On the new laptop Firefox will ONLY store new bookmarks in the Recently Book... folder, no matter how many times I choose a specific folder from the Location dropdown, even if I only choose Bookmarks Menu without subfolder. Show Editor is checked. I have to manually move new bookmarks from Recently Book..... This is annoying. Can you help? I have not found a forum with this question.

Recently Bookmarked is not a real folder (the bookmarks are stored in their own folder), but is a list that shows the result of a query sorted by date added/descending. In Firefox 96+ you can right-click a bookmark search/query/recent result list and click "Show in Folder" to locate this bookmark in the sidebar in the folder list.

Did you check in what folder a bookmark that you see in Recently Bookmarked but can't find is located like I wrote above? Sometimes bookmarks you import end up at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder instead of in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support)

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

Yes, I checked all folders in the Menu and in Other. Saving new0 bookmarks will only put them in the the Recently.. folder from which I move them manually where I want them even though I designate the folder where to save a new b.

You need to right-click an item in Recently and click "Show in Folder" to see where they end up. If that fails to locate and show this bookmark the you need to check for issues with places.sqlite (bookmarks and history) lie I wrote above.

If you use Sync, best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
  • you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created

You may have to restore an older bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

I have done all of that. They ONLY end up in the Recently... folder.

It's the Recently Bookmarked folder inside "Bookmarks Toolbar" . Not sure what is going on. FIREFOX froze a couple of hours ago and when I opened it up again, all the bookmarks and folders are there twice. What the.....
