Sun, 2 January, 2011 21:26:24 log-in problems ... From: kokonuts <kokonuts2@yahoo.com> [Chat now] ... View Contact To: webmaster@mozilla.com Hey, I couldn't log in. "Log In

   * Please enter a correct username and password. Note that both fields are case-sensitive."

After several failed attempts to log in, I re-set my password. Result: "Log In

   * Please enter a correct username and password. Note that both fields are case-sensitive."

I still couldn't log in. I tried starting a new account. Looks like Thai, this time. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/users/register

"Register

   * प्रवोक्ता नाम
   * Email address:
   * कूटशब्द
   * Repeat password:

It wouldn't let me. Register

   * A user with that email address already exists.

(YEAH! ME!!!) I kept seeing all weird languages on the forms, like Hungarian or something. Different every time. This has been going on all weekend. What gives? ??? The worst of it is, I am having a problem with Firefox that I need help with, but I can't post in the Forums without logging in. And I can't log in! Please help. Thanks.

I had this problem but without the weird language text. I'm assuming the strange characters are another problem. I couldn't log in even after a password reset and I couldn't register because an account already existed with that email address. I have more than one email address so I created another account with another email address.

The key is that your email address is not your username. You can reset your password, but if you don't remember your username you are So Out Of Luck because the reset doesn't show or reset your username. I tried the original account again and this time I guessed my username correctly--the account was so old that I was the first one with my nickname and I didn't need any extra characters.

Bottom line: if you can't remember or guess the username that goes with your account, you have to create another account with another email address, if necessary creating a free email address just for the Firefox support forum, or borrowing somebody else's email. After all, you don't need the email address to log on once you've activated the account. You only need it if you forgot the password (or the user name), and in that case you can either go back to the email you borrowed or create another account on the support forum. Apparently the forum management isn't bothered by orphan accounts.

By the way, I couldn't find this forum thread by searching the forum with its keywords, so I don't know whether anybody will see this answer.... No problem! A Google search of the World Wide Web can find it! Come to think of it, that's how I found it in the first place. Enjoy.
