Hi there
I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop. But Firefox is missing the update facility in Help menu. There are no settings in the Tools/Preference/Advanced for how to handle updates, when downloaded. I am locked in as "system manager"!! Having lots of experiences with Explorer, I would like to have my Firefox updated to keep secured. Trying download a "Danish" Firefox 8 resulted in downloaded a pack file, which did not unzip and installing automaticly......there must be something wrong. I am locked in as "system manager"!! try the alternate and easiest way by downloading here
Firefox is missing the update facility in Help menu.
Simply because you are using a third-party build supplied by Ubuntu and is not a build built by Mozilla.
Either you will have to download the Firefox 8.0.1 tarball from Mozilla or use the package manager in Ubuntu to install current version. May have to update repository lists.
As James has said, it could be that Firefox has been customized by the particular distro (Ubuntu) maintainers which means updates to Firefox would have to come from the particular distro's software repository as and when they provide it. If so, Firefox won't be updated via Mozilla. So you may have to go through Ubuntu's Package Manager / Software Center and update Firefox if Ubuntu 10.10 is still supported.

Thanks a lot for taking your time to reply. I have upgraded to Ubuntu 11 including Firefox 8 (it lasted 3½ hour) I sincerely hope to stay protected from vira with the Linux platform.
Kind regards Michael
