Too many pages, pages totally disappear on next restart
I open many pages usually due to work, more than 100 pages. Certain times when I clear history before shutting down my PC then the next day when I reopen the browser all my pages disappear, the browser will open with homepage tab only. I checked whatever I can do but there is totally nothing in the history that I can recover and no restore previous session as well. I don't know what is happening and there is always no crash report when this crash happened. Please help, at least tell me how to recover all the tabs after the crash as those are my working and researching pages so it's very important to me. Hope to hear back from you soon.

Hello,
If you wish, you can configure Firefox to open all windows and tabs from your previous session :
- At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select Options .
- Select the General panel.
- From the When Firefox starts drop-down, select Show my windows and tabs from last time.
- Click OK to close the Options window .
Or you can manually restore previous session :
- At the top of the Firefox window, click on the 'Firefox 'button and then select History.
- Select Restore Previous Session to restore the last session.
I recommend referring the below KB articles for more details :
How do I restore my tabs from last time?
Restore previous session - Configure when Firefox shows your most recent tabs and windows
Hope that helps..!!
Hi, I already chosen 'Show my windows and tabs from last time' since the first day I using Firefox because I love doing research and I never want to close the page I am still using and 'Restore Previous Session' has nothing for me to click at, maybe due to I have clear history before I exit Firefox previously BUT I didn't close all the tabs. Today when I reopen the Firefox then the browser only came out with the homepage, 100 pages disappeared. Anyway for me to recover it?
While clearing History, if Browsing History is cleared, you won't be able to restore session/tabs. So if you are clearing History before closing Firefox, make sure Browsing History is unchecked : Firefox >> History >> Clear Recent History, click on the down arrow on the left of Details and uncheck Browsing & Download History.
Also, you may need to make corrections to your Firefox settings:
- At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select Options .
- Select the Privacy panel and make sure Firefox will: is set to either Remember history or Use custom settings for history.
- If Firefox will: is set to Use custom settings for history then make sure that Permanent Private Browsing mode is not selected.
- If Firefox will: is set to Use custom settings for history and Clear history when Firefox closes is selected, then click the Settings button and make sure that Browsing History is not selected.
- Click OK to close the Options window.
Let me know if this helps.
Too bad, I just don't know why it close all my tabs after clearing the history. You ask me to uncheck the browsing history when clearing the history but what I wanted to clear is actually the browsing history. Another thing, why is the 'Form & Search History' in 'Clear All History' box grayed out? I heard someone said it's because the function already disabled so no point to clear it anymore so how do I enable it?
- If you clear Browsing History, you won't be able to recover or restore previous tabs/section since Firefox uses Browsing History to restore previous session.
- Is saving search & form history enabled?
Which option you are using in : Firefox >> Options >> Privacy >> Firefox will:?
If Firefox will: is set to Use custom settings for history then make sure :
- Permanent Private Browsing mode is not selected.
- Remember search and form history is checked.
You will have to clear the history manually yourself before closing Firefox and not via "Clear history when Firefox closes" if you want to reopen the current tabs on a next start.
If you do this via "Clear history when Firefox closes" that Firefox won't reopen the tabs on the next start.
Also make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never Remember History).
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
- Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
