After update to version 30 (29?) of Firefox on Ubuntu (14.04 64b) it crashes EVERY time I open it. It crashes few seconds after start, than crash reporter appears, it re-launches and works normally. It is not a matter of opened windows and tabs, their variety or number. It seems that it is not a matter of addons (adblock, pocket).

I tried everything that comes to my mind - with no effect. The most brutal way of dealing with it was:

apt-get purge firefox cd ~ rm -rf .mozilla rm -rf .cache/mozilla rm -rf .adobe rm -rf .macromedia apt-get install firefox

...with no effect.

I scanned for viruses (clamscan) and malware and Ubuntu seems to be ok. I do not use any "strange" apps, configurations, proxies - nothing that could affect it.

Any hints? Thanks in advance!

That looks alike a problem with GStreamer playing MP3 files (libgstflump3dec.so).

You can try to set the media.gstreamer.enabled pref to false on the about:config page.

Do you still have any crash report IDs available?

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the Report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page (about:support).

  • Click the "All Crash Reports" button on this page to open the about:crashes page and see all crash reports.

If necessary then you can open about: pages via the location/address bar.

OK, it is a kind of workaround. The question is why it suddenly stopped working? I used Firefox on Ubuntu for years...

Are you using the latest updates of GStreamer and ffmpeg?

Yes, I checked it, it's the newest available in Ubuntu repos.
