Every single website, or link within a website page is being added to my location bar/address bar drop down menu. How can I stop this? This just started happening.
Every single website url address, or url address within a website page is being added to my location bar/address bar drop down menu.
I don't want everything added or saved in the location bar. Only urls that I used a lot used to be saved there but now every single url (and url within a url)I visit is being added to it.
How can I stop this? This just started happening.
I'm sure it's a simple browser setting but I've checked and nothing gives an option to control this.

You can set the pref browser.urlbar.default.behavior to 33 (visited+typed) or 49 (match url+visited+typed) on the about:config page. See also: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.urlbar.default.behavior --- To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Hi, Thanks for your reply.
I don't have the "Location Bar" option in the "privacy" settings in my version of Firefox.
I have version 3.0.19. I had just update this version when this issue arose.
I believe I found what was causing this. I may have unintentionally automatically added some websites to my bookmarks.
When I deleted the websites from the (favourite ?) bookmarks it seemed to have solved the problem.
Thank you very much for your reply.
Sorry, I missed that you use Firefox 3.0.x
For Firefox 3.0.x version you can look at this extension if you do not want to update to 3.5.x or 3.6.x. Old Location Bar: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/7637
Thanks cor-el!
I'm Laura by the way. I'm not sure how I became "Anonymous".
I have held off from updating to 3.5.x or 3.6.x because there seems to be some quirk with the way the newer versions record "read" links in the forums of one of my favourite websites, craigslist.org.
The issue with the "read" links is that once I close out of the craigslist forums, then return to them the links that I've read all have reverted back to "unread" blue.
I know this is an issue with many users. I will be upgrading this version to my desktop computer though.
I love Firefox!
Thanks again for you reply cor-el!

I failed to add to this unread links issue that I have the history set for 90 days. I've checked, changed, troubleshooted with the settings and nothing seemed to help at the time.
In reference to below(though another topic):
"I have held off from updating to 3.5.x or 3.6.x because there seems to be some quirk with the way the newer versions record "read" links in the forums of one of my favourite websites, craigslist.org.

One of the staff of craigslist has addressed the "read" link issue.
See link in reference to it: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/forums/?ID=134758987
The issue with the Craigs list site is caused by opening the links in a frame. Firefox treats links opened in a frame as hidden and only shows them as visited for one day.
See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477882 - Bug 477882 – frame-targeted visited links disappear when closing and reopening Firefox (should not be considered EMBED visits)
(please do not comment in bug reports)
Is there a solution besides requiring utilising MS Internet Explorer, and it might be fixed in versions 3.7 or 4.0 (depending on how you decide your version numbering)?
I'm very much looking forward to the updated version/s.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you
A possibility is to open the links via the right-click context menu or a middle-click in a new tab to make sure that Firefox sees them as regular links.
Yes, opening in new tab and middle-click are other ways.
I don't care much for opening a new tab.
I'll wait and hope the updated versions can fix the issue. I don't mind the 3.0.1+ versions.
Thank you again for your help cor-el. I greatly appreciate it.

I was trying to figure out how to get some of my commonly used urls to show up in the drop down menu again and this solved the problem. I am not looking to get rid of them but to use them when going from one place where I am using https to one which is not etc. It was a convenient crutch for this old guy and I really missed having it when Firefox updated and improved things a while back. It would also seem to delete the one I had been using but at least now I can rebuild it again.
