I've updated to 40 for Mac and still keep getting the window telling me to update to 40.
The window pops up whenever I open Firefox and at random intervals. It is bothersome to have to keep closing it. I've updated both through the pop up window and through "about Firefox" over 4 times and the pop up still keeps happening. "About Firefox" says it is 40.0.

Firefox 39.0 is still the current Release on www.mozilla.org/firefox/all since July 2.
Firefox 40.0 is still on the Beta channel with 40.0b6 being the recent build. There can be six to twelve Beta builds for a version on Beta channel.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
Do a full install of the current program.
I trust that you are aware that Firefox 40.0 is the current Beta version, and that Beta gets 1 or 2 updates per week until the RC stage.
