Loss of functionality in TB 115
The redesign of TB in 115 has moved the search box into what is traditionally the title bar of a window. Likewise, customization puts buttons, such as "delete", up there as well. This moves them farther away from the message list area.
If one is using a trackpad, this redesign requires much more effort to navigate the screen since the mouse must be moved farther to click the button or to search, and then moved back farther to return to the message list.
I'm sure that someone thought this was cosmetically appealing but it represents a serious degradation in usability.
I strongly suggest that you reconsider the design, putting more emphasis on usability than on cosmetics.
Thank you

Ctrl+K helps avoid needing the mouse

In any case, my concern is over having to move the mouse farther x 2 (there and back again) I don' see how a keyboard shortcut (any shortcut) would help. It would be more work to let go the mouse, grab the keyboard, do the shortcut, put the keyboard down and then grab the mouse again.
Beside which there is this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunderbird/comments/14x7w6y/loving_115_but_is_there_a_way_to_get_rid_of_the/
r/Thunderbird - Loving 115, but is there a way to get rid of the CTRL-K in the search box. Looks out of place to me. and I'd like to see that disappear as well. The search bar with just "Search..." would look much cleaner and solid.

Your citation is correct when using compose. Otherwise, it invokes search https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-thunderbird#w_search-and-filter-functions
Two things: 1 - I guess this is new to 115 because in 102 it just puts the cursor in the search field. 2 - This is all interesting but it does not really address my main issue, which is that the search box and the buttons (like deleted have been relocated from their old position directly above the message list to to what used to be the title bar.
It may seem like a small thing to you for me to be complaining about having to move the moust an extra 1/2 inch (twice) to use the delete button (if you have added it as a customization) but when you do it dozens of times a day, the extra inches add up to something very annoying.
I'm sure someone thought the esthetics were nice but, from my perspective, it just makes the app unnecessarily more difficult to use.
The devs seemed to have joined MS in making gratuitous changes to things that have been working fine for years, just to proclaim that there is a new, "modern" look. Frankly I don't choose apps because of how they work, but on the basis of how they work. For reference, in every version of windows since 7, I have worked assiduously to recreate the look and feel of windows 7, complete with my favored black desktop. It now requires Open Shell and Explorer Patcher, but thankfully those apps exist.
I'm all in favor of enhancements to functionality but this, as we;l as most of MS's recent changes, seem a bit like re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Perhaps move it back where it belongs. The "team" are adamant that we will learn to like it and reluctant to offer user choice, but this forum is full of topic about how to actually fix it.

Personally I have not been offered an update to V115, but I have a daily version installed and found that the toggle for the quick filter was on this new list header that just wasted space once I customized the toolbar, but I could not work out how to get back to it to find the card icon again until I stumbled on this as a layout option not a toolbar. This interface is confused, confusing I can only hope someone releases a fixed version in less than the normal 12months. Oh well..
