There used to be a solution via userChrome.css:

/* separate stop and reload buttons */

  1. reload-button, #stop-button {
 display: -moz-box !important;

}

The above workaround no longer provides separate stop and reload buttons on the browser in the latest version of firefox.

"moz-box" is no more. See the post below (remove the blank space). Change to display : flex.

This is the second or third time that userChrome.css setting has been incapacitated by Firefox update.

What is the new hoop we have to jump so the above workaround works as it should? and have one separate stop button (x) and a separate reload button next to it with both simultaneously visible at all times?

Install the Stop button and Reload button extensions, pin them to the toolbar and go into Customize mode to position them where you want. Don't forget to give them permission to run in private windows if you want to use them there.
