I'm using FireFox 129 64bit on Windows 10. I have Google set as my default search engine.

Lately, when I type search criteria into the address bar and press Enter, nothing happens. And if I then try to navigate to google.com at that time, it just doesn't load at all. This doesn't happen every time, but it has been happening often enough to be annoying. So I just load up Yahoo instead to conduct my search.

No other site has this problem.

Is this a problem with google.com itself, or with Firefox's handling of it?

Did you try with Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode#search

Windows home or pro?

What security software are you running?

I have tried Troubleshooting Mode now, and yes, I have seen the problem happen in that mode, too. I'm using Windows 10 Home, AVG Antivirus free.

You can check the connection settings and check for possible issues with a Proxy or VPN service.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a Proxy to connect to internet, select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

"No Proxy" is set. Problem still happens. Is there any diagnostic log I can view while the problem is happening, to see why Firefox is not talking to Google?

AVG... Can you disable this and reboot to see if you have the same issue? You can also try Refreshing Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings
