My HP computer has a program that memorizes logins and passwords so it can log me in with a finger print scroll. Since updating none of the stored passwords or logins work and the program will not recognize anything as a login page. I hate this and want to go back to the previous version!!!!!

Here's the process to roll back:

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information.

Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older

Close Firefox 4, and uninstall it. Do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program. Some people report you can skip this step and just run the installer for 3.6.

Then finally you can reinstall Firefox 3.6. Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, it should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.

Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

I did just as you stated and it worked great. Everything is back to normal and just the way I like it. I had no issues at all. Thanks Much.

I downloaded version 3.6 and still cannot get on line with it now after doing the 4.0 version. Keeps telling me I am off line. I really liked Firefox and now it looks like I cannot use it. Can you help me at all.

This sucks! I accidentally signed up for updates to this thread. I have no idea how to turn something like that off.

FireFox, you have done everything right for so long, but this time, you really shat the bed.

Click on "file" at the top left of your firefox home screen. Second from the bottom will be a tab that says "work offline" make sure that tab doesn't have a check to the left of it. If it does click on the check to remove it and return to online mode.

I just uninstalled 4 and reinstalled 3.6 as per jscher2000's instructions and it is working fine. I agree 4 sucks! I had the opposite problem as the original poster. I NEVER save my passwords and it was saving them and not letting me log out of anything....VERY UPSETTING!!!!!!!

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Firefox is my main tool for web development - for years now. Am a HUGE supporter of Firefox - but v4 SUCKS. - ridiculous GUI (the look is "stark" / "angry" - very male) - it is also bullying - what's with the Firefox (top left) taking up valuable real estate all by itself ? - and the sparse choices says "find what you need - IF YOU CAN!" - not intuitive in the least It will be a LONG time before I remove 3.16, but THANKS to whoever designed that version.

V4 really sucks....

I too accidentally "upgraded" and it took me nearly 1/2 hour to revert to V3, and another 10 minutes to get to post this message.

I had to use * IE6 to do the reversion, and suddenly * looks good again (unless of course their latest version is as * as Firefox V4).

ByeBye Firefox.

myself was a FF user for last 12 yrs !! even i remember recommending ppl abt it...but FF 4 is a real PAIN IN THE APPROPRIATE PLACE....

it hogs memory...for simple functions (available by default in previous vers) ,now u have to install add-ons for them (like new tab button, FF4 either lets u have a new tab button OR the "+" button near opened tabs..but U CANT HAVE THEM BOTH SAME TIME!! WHAT THE.......

PC hangs/freezes almost everytime i ran FF 4 ..and for that i have lost valuable data..mind u, my machine config is not outdated. I have reverted back to previous vers FF 3.6...and am NOT UPDATING IT SOON....

ALL OF U FOLKS HAVIN PROBS WITH FF4 : easiest solution for all your probs -

1) get rid of FF4 and install the previous vers - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html after backing up - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information

OR

2) get an alternative browser

yes folks, the above solution will at least give u peace of mind and a more peaceful good night sleep
