The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Running FF Ver.18 beta on Windows XP Pro.

Don't think it's a Firewall problem because constant refreshing sometimes loads the whole page (eventually). It's almost impossible with animations - like BBC Weather forecasts. Some pictures have three small squares in the centre that constantly pulsate.

I have also tried resetting FF to default state - it did not correct the problem. Fully up-to-date on Flash, Shockwave and Java. All pages run perfectly on Windows IE8 (I hate IE - I want my FF back).

running windows 7 Professional 64-bit and just updated a few security patches that were critical last night. It was working perfectly before I updated the patches. My other two Browsers chrome (currently using) still works.

Uninstalling and reinstalling did not help the situation on my end. All other browsers work IE and Chrome just not FF. It will load the default home screen but will not even respond to go to another page. It will flicker then just stay there. I changed the home screen to google and now it is just blank and not responsive. Uninstalled and removed all files and still nothing.
