HI, basically since I updated to TB 78.2.2 it stopped receiving emails on IMAP Dovecot/postfix server (my own server) ... gmail etc still works

I tried to delete a pw of one account to reeenter it, but Thunderbird only shows “connected to dan@myserver.com” … but it does not download the new mails nor asks me to reenter the PW

any idea what this is? also tried in secure mode, add ons deactivated etc.

Thx for your help Dan

using TLs V1.2 or later on your dovecote instance to encrypt communications. V1.1 and earlier were disable in the 78 line.

Hi Matt, thank you!

Not sure what TLS we use, but all worked until 78.2.2. ... used 78, 78.1 etc before, only since the update to 78.2.2. I have the issue.

Could it still be this issue? Thanks a million Dan

open the error console (ctrl+Shift+J) Click the bin icon to clear it. Click the get mail button with the relevant account selected. What errors appear in the error console? Note right clicking selected error offers some option to copy to clipboad so you can paste into your reply..

HI Matt, thank you so much! Note: the issue might be that <= TB 78.1 did NOT request TLS 1.2 only, so that it keeped working

My admin says we did not "teach" Dovecot TLS 1.2 yet, he will get onto it next week So that might be an explaination.

When I do the steps above I get 0 errors... as if there was nothing, no conenction

when I try to download messages I see in left bottom side "

"dan@mydomain.com: Connected to impa.mydomain.com.." for a long time, but nothing happens... NO errors some cookie/iframe warning for other accounts..

Does that sound like the TZLS issue to you? THx a million

HI Matt, somehow my last 2 posts are gone, also got a 500 error from mozilla..

basically wrote that if TB <= 78.2.2. might still have accepted TLS <1.2, TB 78 worked with dovecot (not using TLS 1.2 so far) but now following your instructions above, when I try to receive emails for one of that servers accounts, I see left bottom: "myname@mydomain.com: Connected to imap.mydomain.com" that goes on for ages then I see no new messages"

which is not true

Coudl that be the TLS 1.2 issue ?

Thx a million Dan PS.: If this post is not accepted again by mozillas server, I am out of ideas how to respond

hmm...yes, it does, so it seems somehow my answer got lost :(

ok: Thank you so much again!!

An explaination for this could be that TB <= 78.2.2 did still accept TLS <1.2. On my server's dovecot is TLS 1.2 not installed yet my admin will do it next week, hope that will solve this issue

I did as you suggested above, but only get an error for Lightning

When I try to receive messages from an important account (on that server), I see in TB bottom left

"myname@mydomain.com: Connected to imap.mydomain.com.." for felt minutes Then "no mesages to download"

No errors in log

Does that sound like the TLS upgrade is the issue?

Thank you so much

Dan

only get warnings:

Attempt to set a forbidden header was denied: Connection 608937947-lcs_client_bin.js:122:393 Attempt to set a forbidden header was denied: Connection 608937947-lcs_client_bin.js:122:393 Attempt to set a forbidden header was denied: Connection 608937947-lcs_client_bin.js:122:393 Attempt to set a forbidden header was denied: Connection

is this a hint? Thx Dan

re :"myname@mydomain.com: Connected to imap.mydomain.com" that goes on for ages then I see no new messages"

I happened on a connection to a livemail server which I know is not using the most up to date TLS. I had exactly the same ongoing connection message, so changed this and it sorted the issue.

In Menu app icon > Options > General Scroll forever to the bottom and click on 'Config Editor' accept the risk In search type: tls.version look for this line : security.tls.version.min Double click on line to open an edit window and enter the number 1 Note: you could try number 2, but that option failed for me. click on OK. Exit window - top right x

re :PS.: If this post is not accepted again by mozillas server, It will get accepted but sometimes there s a delay in posting as it is being checked as not spam. The pain in the proverbial is that anything that gets checked and gets posted but no email is sent out to those following, so they have no idea a reponse has been made, so they have to perform a check through everything they are following. In your case, it's just one question, but in my/ other helpers' case there are a lot.

You would have expected the TLS issue to have raised something a bit earlier, but I didn't get the problem until 78.1.0 Worth trying it out as it does no harm and is easily reversable.

HI Toad-Hall, thank you so much! Great support here... I did as you suggested, but only message changed, still no download/receiving of messages

Now I see bottom left when I do "Get Messages" for that account

"myname@mydomain.com: Checking mail server capabilities..."

...innuendo ..

"No messages to download"

Seems something is very messed up here.

Thx Dan

I'm assuming you still have the setting security.tls.version.min set to 1 as you know the server's dovecot is TLS 1.2 not installed yet.

Please try the old die hard method - exit Thunderbird and restart computer, then start Thunderbird and report on results.

Just make sure to return the setting to default when 1.2 is installed. Keeping insecure protocols with known weaknesses open longer than absolutely necessary is an invitation to hackers.

HI Toad-Hall, thank you!

1. there was a registrar issue, that should be resolved by now 2. TLS on server was updated to 1.2

but still cannot connect to mail account with TB... tried again to lower security.tls ... as described above... still "connected to mail.mydoain.com ... innuende

any other idea?

Thx Dan

I have the same problem. Since the upgrade to 78.2.2 yesterday, Thunderbird has not downloaded any of the new emails from my accounts.

I am running on OS X 10.15.5

Here is the log from the error console.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I now have problems with 78.2.2(32bit). Adding my experience to assist PD. All was fine on 68 until this update.

Now when trying to connect to Fasthosts.co.uk mail servers using the SSL/TLS Connection Security that FH specifies, I could neither send or receive eMails. I changed the "receive" Connection Security to "STARTTLS" and the mail came in however this change on the SMTP configuration has not brought "Send Mail" back into life.

I've tried changing "security.tls.version.min" to 1 and 2 (from the now default 3) and also switching between STARTTLS and SSL/TLS but Send Function still does not work, neither does Receive on any other setting but STARTTLS.

Hope this helps the guy who is going to sort this problem out. (Running WIN10 Pro 2004. Also know of 2 other users with the same problem and one is running on a Macbook Pro. These users also use Fasthosts as their Hosting Service) Phaz

I too am having this problem. When TB 78.2.2 is checking for or downloading emails, it will stop responding.

Once it is done, it appears to act normally.

I have tried resetting security.tls.version.min from 3 (the default) to 1. No change in performance.

I am using Win10 Pro x64

I have deleted and re-installed TB 78.2.2 again. Same situation.

Today I went to Comcast and exchanged my modem for a newer one. The previous one was 3-4 years old.

After setting security.tls.version.min from 3 (the default) to 1 using normal settings for server, you do need to restart Thunderbird.

However, Note: some users report also needing to set security.tls.version.enable-deprecated to TRUE. To create this setting right click in the settings area > New > Boolean. Exit window - top right x

You have to restart thunderbird after changing the above.
