I upgraded to 29, and found something really annoying.

For some webpages, there are 100% probability that when you open the webpage in one tab, that tab will lose response. I can't do anything on that tab, I cannot close it, I cannot reload it (F5 & click refresh button don't work too). When I click on one link of the webpage in that tab, there's no response.

What I can do is, close the whole Firefox program, and repoen it.

This is really rediculous bug and please fix it.

Thanks.

Looks like Firefox is hanging.

Firefox has hardware acceleration set to "on" by default, but it's still young, which means some video cards or drivers might have problems with it. You can try to disable hardware acceleration to see if that alleviates your problems.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps for Firefox version 29.0 and above:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux. For Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window, click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Another thing to try if disabling Hardware ACceleration didn't work would be to see if one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:

  • Windows/Mac: Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
  • Linux: Run firefox -safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Hi all, thanks for the reply.

I now tried to disable hardware acceleration, it doesn't work.

I then tried safe-mode. The thing is that it works in some way, becuase now I DO can close any tab.

But it doesn't solve the problem completely because the webpage (or the tab) still seems hang. I can't click any link. I can't go to any other webaddress from that tab by entering a new address.

I DO can close that tab now. (without safe mode, I can't even close that tab).

The website that constantly cause my problem is here (it's a Chinese site but you can clikc on the links to see the problem).
