I'm pretty sure I have used hyperlinks from the Mac Mail program since I upgraded to Firefox 32. A couple days ago, when I clicked on a link in an email, it jumps to Firefox but no new tab with web page opens. If I close Firefox, then clink on the link in mail, Firefox opens with the desired web page. I have verified that Firefox is my default browser. I have opened in Safe mode. I have reset Firefox to default. I have tried links from multiple emails. Nothing changes this problem. I have not downloaded any additional software since upgrading to Firefox 32. I am perplexed.

Chosen solution

OK, after resetting the default browsers again (turned off then turned back on) and restarting my computer, the problem seems to have resolved itself. Thanks.

hi techgal56, This is strange, this is an issue I have only seen in Windows, where it has the default program set for http specifically in the control panel.

As for Mac, when you open the link, is Firefox already open? In about:config there is an entry called: browser.kink.open_newwindow.override.external, that handles external links or links opened from a different application. What is it set to? mine is -1and when I open Thunderbird it opens in a new tab.

Also if you copy and paste the link into an open window, does the url work as well? I am wondering if it is the formatting of the link.

In about:config, browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external is set at -1.

Yes, Firefox is already open when I click on the link embedded into an email message. If I copy and paste the link, it opens the web page with no problem. Also, if I right-click on the link in the email (usually embedded behind a button) and select "Open Link Behind Mail," it will also open the web page, however it does not jump to a Firefox window, I need to go there manually.

If Firefox is closed when I click on the link in the email message, the browser will open with the linked web page.

Here are all my browser.link.open settings: browser.link.open_newwindow;3 browser.link.open_newwindow.disabled_in_fullscreen;true browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external;-1 browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction;2

Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser via the settings in Safari.

I reset my default browser to Safari, tested the link, then reset my default browser back to Firefox. The 1st attempt to open a link from an email worked, but then it stopped working again. I tried this several times and each result was the same: after resetting Firefox as my default browser, 1st attempt worked, all further attempts jumped to Firefox but no link opened.

Did you let Firefox do this?

I don't understand the question... did I let Firefox do what?
