My harddisk suddenly died and after that I'm unable to regain my old bookmarks (used the old sync). The bookmarks are on your server, can I get them back?
I have the firefox sync key (used for the old sync) and all that, but of course it's useless with the new sync system. One of my ideas was to log in to my desktop computer, sync all the bookmarks, then upgrade to the new sync - but unfortunately being unused for years it turns out the monitor had died and the graphics card looked to be toast (smelled like it anyway).
Any ideas?

This may not work (Firefox sync is not a backup system so this will probably fail) but it's worth a try:
- Download Firefox 28 from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/28.0/win32/en-US/ (Do not use this for anything other than recovering your sync account, it is not secure and should not be used on the internet)
- Connect to Firefox Sync, download your data.
- Update to Firefox 33.1.1 (Update Firefox to the latest release)
- Update to the new Firefox Sync, Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more

hello ThePres, you could try this "hack" to get a new firefox version to connect to an old sync account: enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), right-click somewhere in that page & create a new string preference named services.sync.usernamewith a value like fake.
afterwards you should be able to connect to the old account through the firefox options > sync panel. if this worked and you could import your data successfully, please migrate to the new sync afterwards: Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more

Thank you for your answer, I tried it first but it wasn't able to log in to the sync server. Looks like the hack didn't work
Thank you, looks to have worked like a charm, they're all there :) excellent response times here by both, pleasantly surprised!
Edit) ok misinterpreted how the Reply function works here. Anyway, you got the drift!

Glad it worked! Make sure you update to Firefox 33.1.1 and then update to the new sync so you don't have to jump through hoops again in the future.
