38.2.0 won't move/delete messages and hides messages? Only when I filtered for the email address was it there. 31.7 does not have this problem!

The last few days, my desktop thunderbird client has been VERY buggy. I try to delete a message, and it immediately reappears in my inbox. I try to move messages to other folders, and the same thing--they reappear in the inbox. Then today, a message in my inbox "disappeared". I ran a filter for the email address on the inbox, and it showed up! Filter off, message not displayed. I even restarted my PC and the bugs did NOT go away.

When I used my laptop in the evening (running 31.7.0) I had to "rework" all the messages from earlier, and that version worked fine. Now it wants me to update, and I'm trying to delay, for fear the same problems will emerge.

There are some nice features in the new Thunderbird, but if the basic mail functions don't work right. I'll have to dump it completely.  :(

The problems you're describing are probably not caused by the update but may indicate some sort of corruption in your profile.

Do you use IMAP for your account? If so, make sure you do you have an offline copy of your messages, either via synchronization or in Local Folders.

Do you have a full backup of your Thunderbird profile folder? If not, create one now. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Backing_Up_and_Restoring

Then try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder. Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder

Note, if your folder is severely corrupted, this may cause messages to disappear from your view, which in reality aren't there anymore.
