Some sites work fine. I have Firefox on my work PC and laptop. I can open cjonline.com on them, but on this desk top it loads the a page with the following, 1000's of lines like the below: (function() { var _UDS_CONST_LOCALE = 'en'; var _UDS_CONST_SHORT_DATE_PATTERN = 'MDY'; var _UDS_MSG_SEARCHER_IMAGE = ('Image'); var _UDS_MSG_SEARCHER_WEB = ('Web'); var _UDS_MSG_SEARCHER_BLOG = ('Blog'); var _UDS_MSG_SEARCHER_VIDEO = ('Video'); var _UDS_MSG_SEARCHER_LOCAL = ('Local');

There are pages of the below. Some sites come up and try to open notepad. I uninstalled firefox multiple times and reinstalled it. Same results. I noticed that my bookmarks, etc... are getting restored so maybe uninstall/reinstall isn't cleaning up the problem. Chrome, IE, and Edge all work fine on the sites in question.

It takes me to the following address instead of cjonline.com: http://www.google.com/uds/api/search/1.0/432dd570d1a386253361f581254f9ca1/default+en.I.js?&noj=1

Thanks....

Chosen solution

Maybe a content filter has gone awry. Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

This resolved the problem. Now what do I need to do so that Firefox doesn't need to be started in Safe Mode?

Thanks....

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via *"3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button)

  • Windows: File > Exit
  • Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File > Quit

Thank you very much. That resolved my problem. I will file this away for future reference.

Thanks again.....
