I open Thunderbird, and it says "installing updates" or something like that, and then it completely resets my display options. For instance, it opens a reading pane, which I hate. How do I make my settings permanent?

Software like CCLEANER is known to reset your settings. If using it or other like software tell it to leave your Thunderbird files alone.
