I am running Firefox Ver 46.0.1, Windows 8 32 bit (KB3130896), 8gb ram.

Lately in the last 2 weeks, it has been crashing on me. The problem is that I can get 5 crashes in 1 hour or nothing for a whole day. I have tried the various solutions outlined.

Safe Mode - still crashes Fresh install - still crashes Plugins/addons/extensions disabled - still crashes

I have scanned my computer using Avast and Malwarebytes and nothing bad to report.

Do I need to add the submitted crash reports to facilitate?

At this moment, it is getting so irritating that (GASP! Shock! Horror!) I am forced to use IE!

Good day, all.

I think I have managed to isolate the problem to be the Patriot RAM stick. I took it out and have been running my PC with no mishap.

Many thanks for all the help.

hello, could you provide your latest few submitted crash reports? please enter about:crashes into the location bar, copy the latest few report ids from there starting with bp- & paste them here into a forum reply. this will give us a better understanding what may be triggering those crashes.

Good day, philipp. Thanks for the quick reply. Have done as you asked. I do hope 5 is enough but can go back and get more if needed.

thanks, due to the range of error signatures, i would speculate that faulty hardware might be involved in the issue. can you test the integrity of your RAM with a tool like www.memtest.org?

more options

Good day, Philipp. I have ran Memtest twice for 3 passes each with no errors detected. But I did discover that I have 2 separate brands of RAM. They are both 4GB DDR3-133 types. One is a Hynix and the other is a Patriot.

I did rang up the shop that assembled my PC and informed them, I was told that it should not be a problem.

Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem. See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Good day, cor-el.

Did what you mentioned. So far in the last 24 hours, had only 1 crash. Reviewed the crash report, noted that it was xul.dll that was responsible.

Is there any way of isolating what is xul.dll doing to cause it to crash?

xul.dll = Firefox

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.
