I recently requested a file I needed and when I opened the e-mail with the attached 7zip file Thunderbird suddenly decided there was no attachment. After a quick look through the e-mail source I was able to locate that there was an attachment and even where it might be. But I have no way of retrieving it as the file only seem to be accessible by Thunderbird. while I have asked for the files to be sent again I would like to find a solution if this happens again.

When you choose to open an attachment, Thunderbird writes it to the system temp folder. If your computer or anti virus is so configured incorrectly it may simply be deleting the file as fast as Thunderbird writes it. Or it might just think there is a virus in the attachment.
